The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming November 8 Anambra State Governorship Election, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, has formally reaffirmed his pledge to serve for only one term if elected, by deposing to an affidavit to that effect.

Nwosu, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial Zone—the same zone as the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area—said his decision aligns with the state’s unwritten zoning arrangement that rotates power among the three senatorial districts.

During his visit to the High Court in Awka on Thursday, Nwosu personally signed and submitted the affidavit, declaring his intention to govern Anambra for only four years to complete the turn of the southern zone.

His action has been lauded by observers as a rare show of political integrity, reinforcing his campaign’s message of transparency, accountability, and selfless service.

Speaking shortly after the court procedure, Nwosu emphasized that governance should not be about holding onto power but about achieving measurable progress within a defined period.

“I came into the race to serve, not to rule,” he said. “I have publicly made the commitment before, and now I’ve legally sealed it before the court. Four years is enough to transform Anambra if there is sincerity of purpose.”

According to the state’s zoning understanding, after another four years under a governor from the South, the governorship is expected to rotate to the Central Senatorial Zone, just as the Northern Zone had completed its eight-year tenure previously.
