Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
This decision marks a significant milestone following the passing of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022.
The approval came after the Oyomesi, the traditional council responsible for selecting the Alaafin, conducted extensive consultations and divinations to identify the most suitable candidate for the revered throne.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the announcement resolves the socio-legal disputes that emerged after the former monarch’s demise.
The government expressed optimism that this decision would restore harmony and stability to the kingdom.
In a related statement, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, called on the people of Oyo State to embrace the new Alaafin and celebrate this historic moment.
He emphasized the importance of unity and support for the new monarch’s reign.
The state government also expressed hope that Prince Owoade’s ascension would usher in an era of peace, prosperity, and unity for the Oyo Kingdom, further strengthening its cultural and traditional heritage.
