The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and various unauthorized activities within the Maiduguri metropolis.

The move, which aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, aims to promote a cleaner and more organized urban environment.

In a statement issued on Friday, the General Manager of the board, Limán Mustapha, outlined the scope of the ban.

Key areas affected include the Post Office and Monday Market neighborhoods, where street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repair activities have been prohibited.

The ban also extends to activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts.

Additionally, the sale of engine oil on road reservations, the dumping of sand or building materials, cement mixing on roads, and the construction of boreholes along roadsides have been outlawed.

Individuals and businesses engaged in these activities have been directed to vacate the affected areas immediately.

Mustapha emphasized that violators would face arrest and prosecution in court, as the board remains committed to enforcing the order.

Residents and business owners have been urged to comply with the regulations to avoid legal consequences.

The BSUPDB reassured the public that these measures are intended to foster a safer and more orderly urban landscape across Maiduguri and beyond.
