The North-East Governors Forum has extended its condolences to Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, following the loss of his mother, Maryam Namadi, and his eldest son, Abdulwahab Namadi, within 24 hours.

In a statement issued on Friday by the forum’s chairman and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, the dual loss was described as devastating, with Zulum acknowledging it as an act of divine will. The statement, released by Zulum’s spokesman, Dauda Illiya, expressed the forum’s shared grief.

“On behalf of the people of Borno State and the entire North-East region, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Your Excellency and the people of Jigawa State over the tragic loss of your beloved mother and son,” the statement read.

Zulum urged the bereaved family to find solace in faith and resilience, stating, “As Muslims, we believe that everything that happens, whether positive or otherwise, is destined by the Almighty.”

He offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to grant them Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and prayed for strength and fortitude for the Jigawa governor, his family, and the state’s residents to bear the irreparable loss.

Maryam Namadi passed away early Wednesday while Governor Namadi was on an official trip to China, aimed at fostering economic ties and attracting investments to Jigawa State.

Tragedy struck again on Thursday when Abdulwahab Namadi was involved in a fatal motor accident while traveling from Kafin Hausa to Dutse, the state capital. The vehicle he was driving reportedly lost control and somersaulted. Several of his friends, who were also in the car, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Dutse General Hospital.
