Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite ongoing internal disputes. Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja to mark his first year in office, Wike addressed speculation about his potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike, who was appointed FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu while remaining a PDP member, has faced rumors of crossing party lines since his appointment. The internal conflict within the PDP has been exacerbated by tensions between Wike and his successor in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as both vie for control of the party in the state.
When questioned about his plans should the crisis in Rivers persist, Wike stated, “I don’t run away from a fight. I will stay there and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires?” He added that he had been transparent about his support and actions regarding the PDP’s presidential candidate, indicating his commitment to addressing party issues directly.
Wike also criticized the state’s legislative arm, referring to the situation where only three lawmakers were involved in passing the state budget. He described the scenario as “impunity and madness,” stressing that the Rivers House of Assembly must function properly and that decisions should be based on judicial outcomes rather than unilateral actions.
Wike’s statements reflect his determination to tackle the challenges within the PDP while reinforcing his commitment to the party despite ongoing internal and political pressures.
