Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Monday, presented the 2025 budget proposal to the State House of Assembly, totaling ₦755.6 billion. Tagged the “Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities,” the financial plan focuses on infrastructure, education, agriculture, and industrial development.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements over the past five years, Uzodimma reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s transformation under the ‘Shared Prosperity’ mandate.
“There are ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and expand critical infrastructure, especially the construction of rural roads across the three senatorial zones, and we are working tirelessly to provide a 24/7 electricity supply through the Imo State Electricity Distribution (ISED) project,” Uzodimma stated.
The governor also emphasized plans to dredge the Oguta Lake and Orashi River to connect them to the Atlantic Ocean, a move expected to boost the state’s economic potential.
On education, he announced a policy shift: “The government plans to hand over schools to religious institutions in 2025 as part of its strategy to improve the quality of education.”
In agriculture, Uzodimma pledged to develop the Achara Ugbu Farmland in Owerri North Local Government Area for large-scale agricultural production and to support the revitalization of the Ada Palm project to enhance palm oil output.
“Our administration is committed to modernizing key markets, including the Eke Ukwu Owerri Market, and revitalizing industrial hubs such as the Onitsha Industrial Layout, along with similar facilities in Orlu and Okigwe,” he added.
The governor further disclosed plans to open new layouts and collaborate with developers to improve housing estates across the state, signaling a comprehensive approach to urban development.
The 2025 budget reflects the administration’s focus on fostering economic growth and enhancing the living standards of Imo residents.
