The Federal Government, officially launched a new electronic gate (E-gate) at the departure wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and airport security.

The unveiling took place on Friday, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

In a post shared on his X handle, Keyamo highlighted that the introduction of the E-gate underscores the government’s commitment to improving the nation’s aviation infrastructure.

Joining the minister at the ceremony was Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Keyamo explained that the E-gate initiative, funded through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, seeks to streamline the passenger check-in process while enhancing security measures at the airport.

In addition to the E-gates, the minister and FAAN officials also unveiled four newly acquired Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered transit buses.

These eco-friendly buses, which feature accessibility options for persons with disabilities, are part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and meet international climate goals.

Keyamo emphasized that these advancements reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to improve passenger experiences and elevate Nigeria’s aviation sector to global standards, stressing the importance of partnerships in driving the sector’s development.
