Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has claimed victory in the grand finale of the 2024 7 for 7 National Values Charter Campus Debate (NVCCD), hosted by the National Orientation Agency.
The highly anticipated event took place on December 17, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos. Representing LAUTECH, students Adekunle Ayomide and Oladeji Oluwashina showcased exceptional intellectual skill and a strong sense of patriotism, securing 43% of the 3,921 votes cast.
Their stellar performance earned them the coveted trophy and a cash prize of N20 million.
The duo’s arguments, centered on promoting Nigeria’s shared values, resonated deeply with the audience and highlighted the institution’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and civic responsibility.
Recognition was also extended to zonal winners from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Institutions such as Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt; Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu; Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga; University of Ilorin; and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, were honored for their exceptional contributions. Each received a cash prize of N5 million along with additional awards sponsored by NELFUND.
Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency, underscored the significance of instilling national values in the youth, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to engaging young Nigerians through the National Identity Project (NIP).
Speaking at the event, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director of NELFUND, emphasized the importance of aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for national development.
The event was a celebration of unity, resilience, and intellectual engagement, fostering patriotism and national development among participants while spotlighting the youth’s potential to shape Nigeria’s future.
