The Kano State Government, mandated all landowners to renew their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-Os) by January 31, 2025, warning that failure to comply will result in the revocation of land titles.

Abduljabbar Umar, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, issued the directive during a press briefing on Wednesday, urging landowners to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to register or renew their properties before the deadline.

“All current Certificates of Occupancy will be invalidated after the deadline,” Umar stated.

Recalling the initiative’s launch, he said, “On November 25, 2024, during the re-commissioning of the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) building, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially flagged off the recertification exercise for all existing C-of-Os in the state.

The Governor called on residents to seize this opportunity to register or renew their interests in landed properties,” he continued.

Umar emphasized that this exercise is part of the administration’s broader strategy to streamline land management and secure property rights.

The commissioner highlighted the advanced infrastructure provided by KANGIS, which integrates cutting-edge technology to ensure accuracy and reliability.

“This new system eliminates manual processes, minimizing errors, manipulation, and delays.

It also simplifies land ownership verification and updates,” he noted.

He further stated that the updated C-of-Os are embedded with advanced security features, making them virtually impossible to forge and reducing fraudulent practices.

Umar urged landowners to act swiftly, saying, “Recertifying your land titles will safeguard your investments and ensure the security of property rights in Kano State.”
