Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, emphasized that the release of state funds must be strictly tied to viable projects and innovative ideas that benefit the people.

The governor made this statement during the maiden edition of his administration’s ministerial briefing and end-of-year review held in Uyo.

The event served as an opportunity for the government to present its scorecard for the past 18 months and solicit fresh ideas for progress.

“Release of funds must be tied to ideas and projects that will benefit the generality of Akwa Ibom people,” Eno stated, reiterating his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management.

Governor Eno highlighted his openness to constructive criticism, stating, “I mean criticisms that will put the government on its toes, not smear campaigns or condemnation.

I must say that we have done well, but it is left for critical stakeholders to evaluate our performance.”

The governor outlined three key projects currently prioritized by his administration: the Aviation Village, the Ibom Deep Sea Port, and the Ibom Medical City.

While acknowledging the capital-intensive nature of these initiatives, he noted that the airport project had been given priority due to its potential for quick returns on investment.

Eno also commended his predecessor for initiating projects with strategic investment value, ensuring continuity in governance and development.

Looking ahead to 2025, the governor announced plans to hold town hall meetings twice a month to foster public engagement and input in governance.

During the event, the Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd.), shared updates on the state’s efforts to reclaim illegally acquired government lands and provide compensation for lands acquired from citizens.

“This administration has been committed to accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public funds,” Ekong said, emphasizing the government’s dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy to Akwa Ibom residents.

The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to effective leadership and service delivery, aligned with the ARISE Agenda and campaign promises, ensuring that the people of Akwa Ibom remain at the center of its developmental efforts.
