A young woman has been arrested for allegedly drowning her 10-month-old baby in a river, initially claiming the child was missing. The suspect, who later confessed, revealed that fear of societal ridicule led her to commit the act after the child’s alleged father denied paternity.

Paraded at the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, the woman admitted to succumbing to societal pressure and constant criticism. “I acted out of frustration and regret my actions deeply,” she said.

In a related case, another suspect, Destiny Lawrence, was arrested for allegedly luring an 8-year-old boy to a native doctor for ritual purposes. According to police reports, Lawrence received a fee of ₦30,000 for his involvement. The child was killed, and his body parts were allegedly used for rituals.

These arrests were highlighted during the Delta State Police Command’s end-of-year review, presented by Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda. Since assuming office nearly a year ago, the Commissioner reported significant breakthroughs in combating crimes, including murder, cultism, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

The Commissioner attributed the successes to collaboration with other security agencies
