President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved free transportation across the country as part of efforts to ease the movement of Nigerians during the Christmas season.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, announced this on Monday while addressing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
Idris disclosed that the Federal Government will offer nationwide free train services from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
In addition, the Minister revealed that the University of Abuja has been renamed Yakubu Gowon University in honor of the former Head of State.
He noted that the renaming decision, approved by FEC, will require final ratification by the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, highlighted extensive discussions during the meeting on the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
Edun expressed optimism that the proposed budget will encourage private sector participation in driving economic growth.
Idris also confirmed that Monday’s session marked FEC’s final meeting for the year, with the council set to go on recess from December 18, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
