Kaduna State has been recognized as the best-performing state in primary healthcare in the North West region of Nigeria, earning an international award and a $500,000 cash prize.
The recognition highlights the administration’s dedication to transforming the health sector under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.
Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe received the award on behalf of the state during a gala night organized by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
She attributed the achievement to the governor’s exceptional investments in healthcare and the tireless efforts of the state’s health team to improve services for residents.
The $500,000 prize is set to further bolster Kaduna’s ongoing healthcare initiatives, particularly in enhancing primary healthcare delivery. Dr. Balarabe was joined at the event by the Commissioner of Health and the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board.
The award was part of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge, a flagship program established in 2019 to strengthen governors’ commitment to primary healthcare.
The initiative was launched following the Seattle Declaration and is supported by key partners, including the Nigerian Governors Forum, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Kaduna State’s recognition reflects its strategic investments and innovative approach to improving public health infrastructure and service delivery.
The award underscores the state’s commitment to achieving sustainable and effective healthcare for its residents.
