The Sokoto State Police Command apprehended two suspects, Austin Anthony, 44, and Mansur Abubakar, 32, for their alleged involvement in car theft.
In a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufai, it was revealed that the arrests followed a complaint lodged by Adamu Muhammad and Kabiru Shehu, residents of the Badon Barade area of Sokoto.
According to the statement, the theft occurred on December 5, 2024, at around 4:00 am, when the victims reported that their vehicles, a Toyota Corolla LE (ash color) and a Pontiac Vibe—were stolen.
“Upon receiving the report, officers from the Striking Force Unit acted swiftly and alerted a police checkpoint along the Birnin-Kebbi Road.
One of the stolen vehicles was intercepted in Bodinga town, being driven by one of the suspects,” Rufai explained.
Further investigation led to the suspect’s confession, the recovery of two additional stolen vehicles, and the arrest of another accomplice.
The statement also disclosed that Austin Anthony had previously been arrested on August 28, 2024, by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a similar offense.
At that time, he was found in possession of three stolen vehicles and was arraigned in court.
“Once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution,” the statement confirmed.
ASP Rufai urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or contact the command via its emergency hotline at 08032345167.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, commended the officers for their efforts and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Sokoto State residents.
