The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail totaling N1 billion to 109 foreign nationals accused of involvement in cybercrime and hacking activities allegedly posing a significant threat to national security.
Delivering his ruling on Friday, Justice Ekerete Akpan approved the bail following a motion by the defence counsel, James Onoja (SAN), which was unopposed by the prosecution counsel, A. A. Egwu.
The court stipulated that each defendant must provide five sureties and meet additional stringent conditions. The sureties are required to own landed property within the Abuja metropolis and must submit two recent passport photographs.
Furthermore, the defendants were ordered to surrender the original copies of their passports to the court’s deputy registrar. The sureties are also required to deposit their passports with the court.
Justice Akpan emphasized that compliance with these conditions is mandatory for the bail to be executed.
