The Osun State Government announced the implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦75,554.20 for civil servants, effective December 1, 2024.
The decision follows successful negotiations between the state government and organized labour unions.
Additionally, the government has approved a ₦25,000 monthly increment for all pensioners.
Arrears of the new minimum wage will be paid alongside November salaries.
Speaking at the formal signing of the agreement on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, emphasized that the move reflects Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers and retirees.
“This decision underscores the Adeleke administration’s dedication to ensuring a motivated workforce and addressing the needs of pensioners,” Alimi remarked.
The signing event was attended by state labour leaders, including Trade Union Congress Chairman Abimbola Fasasi and Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman Christopher Arapasopo.
Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, commended Governor Adeleke’s compassionate leadership, noting, “The governor has consistently demonstrated empathy and responsibility in resolving labour issues.
We urge workers to reciprocate with improved productivity and service delivery.”
A circular issued by Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, dated November 29, 2024, outlined the details of the new wage structure and pension increase.
It highlighted the government’s commitment to balancing fiscal sustainability with worker and retiree welfare.
“The minimum wage takes effect from December 1, 2024, with one month’s arrears to be paid.
The new pension package reflects our commitment to addressing the needs of senior citizens while maintaining financial stability,” the circular stated.
The government urged all public servants, including local government employees, to match this gesture with enhanced service delivery and support for the state’s revenue growth initiatives.
“This wage increase results from extensive deliberations considering revenue, debt obligations, and sustainable development.
Workers are encouraged to dedicate themselves to service and contribute to Osun State’s progress,” the circular concluded.
