AS Roma has officially announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as the new Head Coach of the First Team, marking the return of a beloved figure to the club.

A statement from AS Roma, posted on Thursday, confirmed that Ranieri, a lifelong fan and former player of the club, will take charge for the remainder of the season. After that, he will transition into a senior executive role, where he will offer strategic advice on sporting matters to the club’s ownership.

Ranieri, who previously served as Roma’s head coach from 2009 to 2011 and again in 2019, is highly regarded across the football world. “He is a true symbol of the club’s values and one of the most respected Roman sports figures worldwide,” the club said in its statement.

The club extended its best wishes to Ranieri for this new chapter in his career, expressing confidence that he will prove to be an invaluable asset to both the team and the wider AS Roma organization. “Forza Roma and welcome home, Mister,” the statement concluded.

Ranieri’s appointment follows the sacking of Ivan Juric, who was dismissed after just three months in charge. Juric, hired in September following the departure of former captain Daniele De Rossi, was let go after Roma’s 3-2 defeat to Bologna on Sunday.

His tenure was marked by disappointing results, with the team securing only four wins from 12 matches in all competitions. As a result, Roma found themselves in 12th place in Serie A, just four points above the relegation zone.
