A powerful explosion struck Jos on Tuesday morning, shaking the city and alarming nearby communities.

The blast, reported around 10:30 a.m. near the busy Terminus market, left scenes of destruction and chaos, according to witnesses.

Eyewitnesses described a moment of shock and panic.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” said Gyang Buba, a clothing vendor.

“I saw people running and screaming.

It was terrifying,” he added, confirming the incident.

Initial reports suggest several people were injured, with unconfirmed sources indicating possible fatalities.

However, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.

Emergency response teams, including police, firefighters, and ambulance crews, swiftly arrived on the scene to provide aid and secure the area.

The Plateau State Police Command has yet to release an official statement, and attempts to reach the Command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as his phone remained off.

Security sources within the police command headquarters in Jos confirmed the explosion, noting that investigators have launched an inquiry.

“The area has been cordoned off as investigators assess the situation,” said a source.

“We urge calm and assure the public that we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety,” the source added.

The incident has intensified security concerns in Jos, a city that has faced sporadic violence and unrest in recent years.

Residents are calling on authorities to bolster security measures to prevent further incidents.

Further details will be provided as they become available.
