The newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, has pledged to use his new role as a platform to help the All Progressives Congress (APC) reclaim control of Kano State.
Ata made this commitment during a press briefing in Kano over the weekend, following his swearing-in as minister. A key political figure from Kano Central, Ata emphasized that his ministerial appointment is not only an opportunity for development but also a strategic move for the APC’s political revival in the state.
The APC, which had previously governed Kano under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje—now the APC national chair—lost the state to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections.
Addressing the media, Ata stated, “APC has lost Kano State, and now it will take Kano State back. The main problem is the Kano Central, and I am from there.” He underscored the political significance of his appointment, noting that it signals the party’s determination to regain ground in the state.
“This position is not just about housing and urban development; it’s about creating a pathway for the APC to reconnect with the people of Kano and win back their trust,” Ata explained.
He also outlined plans to tackle pressing issues in Kano Central, a region central to the state’s political dynamics. “We recognize the importance of Kano Central, not just for the APC but for the entire state,” Ata added. “My mission is to ensure development that resonates with the people and, ultimately, brings them back to the APC.”
