A former House of Representatives member for Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency, Kabiru Yahayya Classic, announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.

Classic revealed his decision following a meeting in Kaduna with key APC stakeholders, including State APC Chairman Alhaji Tukur Danfulani and Alhaji Lawal M. Liman, Chairman of Senator Abdul’aziz Yari’s Political Organization.

Classic, who served in the 9th Assembly from 2019 to 2023, cited a lack of “justice and fairness” within the Zamfara PDP chapter as his reason for leaving.

“I, Kabiru Yahayya Classic, today, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, wish to announce my defection from the PDP to the progressive party, the APC,” Classic stated.

“I am defecting with all PDP structures in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, including the local government executive committee and 10 of 11 PDP Ward Chairmen,” he added.

State APC Chairman Danfulani welcomed Classic’s defection, describing it as a “great development” and promising fair treatment for him and all new members.

“We are happy to receive our brother into our great party.

More defectors from the PDP-led government in Zamfara are ready to join the APC very soon,” Danfulani added, highlighting the APC’s internal democracy and strong structure.

Alhaji Lawal M. Liman, representing Senator Yari’s Political Organization, praised Classic and his associates for joining the APC, describing it as the party with the vision to advance Zamfara and Nigeria.

This move follows the recent defection of Suleiman Gummi, the Federal Representative for Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, who also shifted from the PDP to the APC, signaling a trend of political realignment in the state.
