Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, has earned the Fair Play Award at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic. Despite a quarter-final exit after a 2-0 loss to the USA, the Flamingos were recognized for their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
In addition to the team’s accolade, Nigerian forward Shakirat Moshood tied with Spain’s Celia Segura for the Bronze Boot, each scoring four goals. However, Segura claimed the award based on her two assists.
Other notable honors included the Adidas Golden Ball awarded to Korea DPR’s Jon Il-chong, with Spain’s Pau Comendador and Celia Segura earning the Silver and Bronze Ball, respectively.
The Adidas Golden Glove went to Evan O’Steen for his exceptional goalkeeping throughout the competition.
