Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Chief Judge Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, and Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service Haliru Nababa are among the esteemed guests expected at the Family Weekend and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, set to begin on Thursday at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The AGM, themed “Transforming Power,” will feature a keynote address by Justice Dipeolu on the topic “Decongestion of Our Correctional Facilities: Roles of Judiciary.” This announcement was made in a statement issued by Apostle Paul Joseph from the Media Unit of Prison Fellowship Nigeria (PFN) on Monday.
The statement highlighted that “Prison Fellowship Nigeria, chartered with Prison Fellowship International and a member of the African Union Commission on Human and People’s Rights, is a faith-based organization committed to the reform of our correctional facilities and the rehabilitation of inmates towards building a better society.”
It further explained, “This year’s Family Weekend and AGM, with the theme ‘Transforming Power’ based on 2 Corinthians 3:18, aims to leverage the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to foster positive change in the lives of inmates and society as a whole. The organization’s goal is focused on the holistic welfare and total transformation of inmates, enabling their reintegration into society to become productive members for themselves, humanity, and God.”
The statement also emphasized that the Prison Fellowship is engaged in advocacy for criminal justice and correctional service reforms, providing support for victims and families affected by crime, as well as offering materials, medical services, legal aid, and capacity development for those involved in and impacted by crime.
Additionally, it was noted that Governor Abiodun will serve as the distinguished guest of honor for the event, which will be chaired by Dr. Emmanuel Adekunle, the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria and Bishop of the Egba Anglican Diocese.
The three-day conference is expected to draw approximately 600 delegates from across the country, featuring speakers such as Mr. Andy Corley, the International President of Prison Fellowship, Barrister Benson Iwuagwu, the Executive Director of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, and Mrs. Ashella Ndhlovu, the African Regional Director, among others.
