Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced on Friday that the state government will begin implementing a minimum wage of N73,000 for civil servants starting this November.
The announcement follows the Federal Government’s initiation of the N70,000 new salary and its consequential adjustments for public servants at all levels of the federal civil service, which began in September.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made the declaration during the 2024 Public Service Week celebration, which featured a fitness walk aimed at promoting the health and well-being of public workers.
In his address, the governor emphasized that the welfare of civil servants remains a priority for his administration, stating that the new minimum wage reflects his commitment to improving the quality of life for the state’s workforce.
He said, “A committee was set up to work out the implementation structure of the minimum wage, and now that it has just been concluded, I will give the necessary approval for the payment of N73,000 to begin.
Anything we have done for civil servants has never been politically driven.
If workers are not happy, they won’t be encouraged to put maximum effort into their work.
That is why we have always prioritised their welfare.
We shall begin the payment of the new minimum.”
The state Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for fostering a conducive work environment for civil servants.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment to timely salary payments, regular promotions, leave bonuses, and the consistent disbursement of pensions and gratuities.
Philips noted that the civil servants present at the event were not there for political reasons but to express their gratitude for the governor’s dedication to their welfare.
Additionally, Comrade Clement Fatuwase, the state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, expressed confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s ongoing support for civil servants.
He assured the governor that civil servants in the state would proudly celebrate his victory after the November 16 governorship election.
