The Senate will commence screening on Tuesday for the seven ministerial nominees recently put forward by President Bola Tinubu.

This follows the President’s formal request to the Senate for their confirmation as part of his recent cabinet reshuffle.

The nominees include Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Dingyadi (Labour & Employment), Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State, Foreign Affairs), Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Yusuf Ata (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Suwaiba Ahmad (State, Education).

This confirmation request comes in the wake of a major cabinet reshuffle in which President Tinubu dismissed five ministers, reassigned ten others, and introduced seven new appointees.

Notably, among those removed were Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development).

In the reshuffle, President Tinubu reassigned several ministers to new roles:
Yusuf Sununu shifted from Minister of State for Education to Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Olatunji Alausa was reassigned to Education from State Health.

Bello Goronyo moved from State Water Resources to State Works.

Abubakar Momoh transitioned from Minister of Niger Delta Development to Minister of Regional Development.

Uba Maigari Ahmadu went from Minister of State for Steel Development to Minister of State for Regional Development.

Doris Uzoka-Anite, previously Industry, Trade, and Investment, now serves as State Finance Minister, assisting Wale Edun, the Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Sports Minister John Enoh was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Investment.

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim was reassigned from State Police Affairs to Women Affairs.

Ayodele Olawande was promoted to Minister of Youth Development from his initial position as Minister of State for Youth Development.

Iziak Salako, previously State Environment, now serves as Minister of State, Health.

The Senate’s confirmation of these nominees will finalize the President’s new cabinet lineup as he aims to address key governance priorities with a revised ministerial team.
