The Kano State Police Command has confirmed it will comply with a court order preventing its participation in the upcoming Local Government elections on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
This directive was announced in a video statement released on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna.
“You are very much aware of the court order which was received by the Police Command here in Kano.
Item nine of the order provides that the Police should not participate in the forthcoming local government election in the state,” Haruna stated. “So, the Police in Kano are not participating in the election.
However, it’s our responsibility to ensure no breakdown of law and order in the state, and we’re always alive to our responsibilities.”
In line with this commitment, Kano State Police Commissioner Salman Garba held a strategic meeting with department heads, area and tactical commanders, and divisional police officers to reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s mandate to protect lives and property.
The Commissioner emphasized proactive measures to deter and respond to security threats, directing enhanced patrols, increased police visibility in high-risk areas, and intensified intelligence gathering.
The Commissioner also stressed the importance of ongoing community collaboration and information-sharing to ensure safety across the state.
“These steps are crucial to maintaining law and order, preventing criminal activities, and ensuring the safety of all inhabitants in the state,” Haruna added.
