Governor of Akwa Ibom State Umo Eno, has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for public civil servants in the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, it was revealed that the governor has also established an implementation committee tasked with delivering its report within one month.

The committee will be chaired by the Head of the Civil Service, Effiong Essien.

“His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the Akwa Ibom State Government will implement a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all state employees,” Ememobong said.

“To ensure a smooth rollout, the governor has constituted an implementation committee with a one-month deadline to finalize its report on the wage increase,” he continued.

The committee includes heads of key ministries and parastatals, such as the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning.

Other members include the Solicitor General, the Accountant General, the Director of Budget, and representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

This development marks a significant step towards improving the welfare of civil servants in Akwa Ibom State.
