The national grid has collapsed for the third time in one week, disrupting power generation across the country on Saturday morning.
Reports indicate that power generation went offline at around 8:16 a.m. following a sharp drop in output. Before the collapse, generation stood at 3,042 megawatts at 8 a.m. and peaked at 3,968 megawatts earlier at 7 a.m. By 9 a.m., however, generation had plummeted to just 47 megawatts.
At the time of filing this report, power distribution companies were receiving zero megawatts, effectively cutting off power supply nationwide.
The exact cause of the latest collapse has not yet been determined, as efforts to reach the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for comment were unsuccessful.
This marks the third grid failure in one week, with previous collapses occurring on Monday and Tuesday during the restoration process. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
