The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly dispatched an emergency response team to Kogi State to aid in ongoing rescue and evacuation efforts following severe flooding in the region. The team, which includes search and rescue specialists, is working in close collaboration with the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other stakeholders.
NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, confirmed that mobile water purification units have been deployed to provide clean water for affected families. This move comes after warnings were issued to flood-prone states like Kogi, Adamawa, and Taraba, urging them to prepare for potential disasters along the Niger and Benue rivers.
In addition, NEMA’s nationwide offices, alongside state ministries and agencies, will establish Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs) to coordinate disaster response. These efforts will include community outreach, evacuation planning, and identifying safe areas for displaced residents.
