The Lagos State High Court has ordered Martin Otse, a controversial social media critic popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to take down defamatory comments and videos targeting lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin, also known as Falz.
In addition to the removal of the content, the court ruled that Otse must pay N500 million in damages for libel, as outlined in the judgment’s pre-action bundle. Justice M. O. Idowu, delivering the ruling on Tuesday in suit no: ID/8584/GCM/2024, found that Otse’s social media posts, published on September 24, 2024, which linked Bobrisky to Falz and his father, were defamatory and harmful to their public image.
The court noted that Otse knowingly made false claims to damage their reputation. Justice Dawodu further stated that as long as the defamatory content remains online, the injury to their reputation continues.
