Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has claimed that the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) prevented him from leaving the country, stating that his name is on their watchlist.

Sowore made the revelation in a statement and video shared on X on Friday, alleging continued harassment and violation of his rights by immigration authorities.

In his post, Sowore wrote, “The Nigerian Immigration Service #nigimmigration continues to subject me to unwarranted harassment and abuse. Violating my rights repeatedly. Today, again, they stopped me on my way out of Nigeria, claiming I am placed on their WATCHLIST!”

The accompanying video shows Sowore questioning an immigration officer and demanding to speak with a superior.

This incident follows a similar situation in September, when Sowore was arrested at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos. Upon arrival, he was detained by immigration officers, and his international passport was confiscated.

Sowore continues to express concerns about what he describes as a systematic violation of his fundamental rights.
