President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his dedication to repositioning Nigeria and building lasting wealth for future generations, stating that his current focus is not on the 2027 elections but on strengthening the nation.
Speaking on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-West Zone Assembly held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to addressing the challenges facing the country. The event was hosted by the Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the president acknowledged the economic hardships Nigerians are experiencing, while assuring that conditions would improve.
“For every era in a nation, there arises a leader suited for that moment. This is a time for courageous leadership. The challenges facing our country are vast and varied, but with conviction, we can overcome them,” Tinubu said, pledging to continue listening to Nigerians and working in their best interest.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, emphasized the unity within the South-West APC and the need to collaborate on strategies to advance the region and the nation. “We are here as one big family to explore more ways to work together and push the South-West to greater heights. We are blessed with assets and positioned to lead Nigeria forward,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also urged party members and leaders to rally behind Tinubu’s administration as it works to implement its “Renewed Hope” agenda.
In a keynote address, former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, stressed the importance of a united APC in achieving the party’s objectives. He praised the party’s history of cohesion, noting that APC is a successful merger of four political parties, and called for regular congresses to maintain the party’s strength.
Other notable attendees included the governors of Ekiti, Ondo, and Ogun, as well as party leaders such as former APC interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, and former Ogun governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun. Senators, representatives, and top government officials from the South-West also participated in the event.
