Over 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just two months before the governorship election slated for November 16, 2024.
The mass defection took place in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, where PDP warmly welcomed the new members.
Dr. Eddy Olafeso, leader of the PDP Campaign Council, pledged full integration of the defectors.
Dissatisfied with APC’s governance, the defectors, led by Yusuf Abdulateef, cited issues like rising poverty, expensive fuel, and lack of democratic dividends, while endorsing PDP’s candidate, Agboola Ajayi, as a beacon of hope for better leadership in Ondo. With 16 parties vying for the election, this defection is seen as a potential game changer.
