Prof. Rhoda Gumus, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner overseeing Edo State, has vowed to maintain a corruption-free stance during the upcoming governorship election in the state.
In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Gumus asserted her unwavering commitment to conducting a credible election, stating that no amount of money would persuade her to compromise her principles. “I cannot take bribes, no matter how much,” she declared confidently, adding that her reputation would deter any attempts at bribery.
“I want to do the right thing,” Gumus said, emphasizing that she would ensure the election is free, fair, and transparent, despite not being physically present at all polling locations.
She further assured that voting will proceed smoothly, with accreditation starting at 8:00 am, and although voting is scheduled to end by 2:00 pm, all accredited voters will be allowed to cast their ballots.
Highlighting her dedication, she shared how she has remained in constant communication with Election Officers on the ground, ensuring any issues are swiftly addressed.
“Every day, I am on the platform with the EOCs. In intervals of five minutes, I check in to see what is happening and correct any issues,” Gumus explained.
She concluded by expressing confidence that the Edo governorship election will be one of the most credible elections INEC has conducted.
