The Kano State Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to provide free housing for flood victims and enhance the learning environment for students by distributing desks and chairs to 220,000 pupils across the state.

Governor Abba Yusuf made this announcement during the weekly Executive Council meeting at the Government House on Wednesday.

He outlined that the housing project aims to offer safe and affordable homes to flood victims in all 44 local government areas of the state.

“The provision of these houses will significantly help flood victims secure suitable shelter for their families,” Governor Yusuf stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to alleviating the impact of flooding, which has displaced many families.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the state government is also extending further relief to flood victims.

“We are committed to supporting them with food and other essential supplies as they navigate this challenging time,” the governor added.

Additionally, Governor Yusuf revealed a major educational initiative that will see the distribution of desks and chairs to 220,000 students in the first phase.

This effort aims to improve the learning and teaching environment in primary and secondary schools across the state.

“This is part of our broader effort to enhance the learning and teaching environment in our schools,” he said.

With the 2024/2025 academic session already underway in some rehabilitated schools, Governor Yusuf reassured the public of the government’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitate all schools in the state.

He also reiterated the government’s pledge to provide free school uniforms to all Primary 1 pupils, in line with the declared emergency on education.

Governor Yusuf called on all stakeholders in the education sector to work collaboratively towards achieving the state’s educational objectives.

“We must collaborate to ensure the success of these initiatives.

Our children’s education is a priority, and we will continue to invest in their future,” he asserted.

Commending the Executive Council members for their dedication, he urged them to remain focused on their duties despite efforts by detractors to hinder the state’s progress.

“Your contributions are invaluable, and we must not be deterred by those who seek to undermine our achievements,” the governor concluded.
