In response to the recent flood disaster in Borno State, the Federal Ministry of Environment has dispatched a team of experts to collaborate with the state government in mitigating the environmental impact.
Minister Balarabe Lawal, in a statement on Wednesday, confirmed that various departments, including Pollution Control, Environmental Health, and Erosion Management, are part of the deployed team.
The experts will conduct continuous water sampling, identify hazardous chemicals, and work to prevent waterborne diseases.
Additionally, 100 drums of chlorine have been sent to disinfect water sources. Public sensitization efforts, including 30,000 flyers, will promote hygiene and proper sanitation practices to reduce the risk of infections.
Beyond immediate measures, the ministry aims to develop long-term flood mitigation strategies and explore international collaborations for disaster risk management. Minister Lawal commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his swift response and proactive leadership during the crisis.
