Four people have been confirmed dead after an outbreak of acute diarrhoea in Jangalawaji and Tadangara settlements, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State. According to development partners, 45 individuals exhibiting symptoms of the disease have received treatment.
Yobe State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Lawan Gana, confirmed the casualties and stated that the state government’s Rapid Response Team, alongside partners, is conducting hygiene sensitisation in the affected areas. He noted that while no cases of cholera have been confirmed, samples from those affected have been taken for further testing.
Gana also mentioned that reaching the settlements posed challenges due to the surrounding water, but access was eventually achieved without needing a helicopter. He reassured the public that no new cases of acute watery diarrhoea have been reported as of yesterday, but stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and preventive measures.
