The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), representing 81.50 per cent of registered voters in Osun State, have been collected ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The commission said the figure was recorded out of a total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.

In a statement on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, had been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with the commission’s established procedure.

“Out of the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State, 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent, have been collected. The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the Commission’s established practice,” INEC said.

The commission also disclosed that 6,101 voters whose cards were damaged, defaced or lost had applied for replacements and subsequently printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.

“Similarly, it should be noted that some persons with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs applied for replacement of their cards. A total of 6,101 among those who applied printed downloadable copies of their PVCs,” INEC added.

The electoral body said it had published a polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown of collected PVCs on its official website.

INEC also reassured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of Osun State of its preparedness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, security preparations have intensified across the state as political parties and voters make final arrangements for the governorship poll.

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to deploy thousands of personnel across Osun’s 30 local government areas to maintain law and order and safeguard the electoral process.

Police sources and official statements indicate that at least four officers will be deployed to each of the state’s 3,673 polling units, excluding personnel from other security agencies.

The heightened security measures are aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials and materials, as well as preventing incidents capable of disrupting the conduct of the election.
