Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a scintillating attacking performance on Wednesday, defeating Egypt 6-2 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will face long-time rivals Cameroon.

The nine-time African champions took the lead in the 21st minute after Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty awarded following a VAR review for handball.

Nigeria doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time through Gift Monday, who finished off a well-worked short-corner routine involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide. Egypt, however, pulled one back before the interval to head into the break trailing 2-1.

The Super Falcons reasserted their dominance after the restart, with substitute Uchenna Kanu restoring the two-goal cushion in the 57th minute with a composed left-footed finish.

Nigeria extended their lead through two more penalties, both awarded after VAR interventions. Christy Ucheibe converted from the spot in the 80th minute before captain Rasheedat Ajibade added a fifth eight minutes later.

The emphatic victory was sealed deep into stoppage time when Gift Monday and Ajibade combined to set up Joy Omewa, who marked her first-ever WAFCON goal by completing the scoring in a comprehensive 6-2 triumph.

The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to a highly anticipated quarter-final showdown against Cameroon as they continue their quest for another continental title.
