President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that Tuggar stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to assume full leadership of the ministry and steer Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements at a critical period for its foreign policy direction.
According to the presidency, the appointment forms part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy framework for improved efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships. In a related development, the President also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The leadership change comes as the administration seeks to strengthen economic diplomacy, deepen international cooperation, and enhance Nigeria’s role in regional and global affairs.
