A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu over what he described as Nigeria’s failure to meet conditions tied to U.S. security assistance.
Moore raised concerns that the Nigerian government had not complied with requirements attached to the aid, particularly those related to accountability and the protection of vulnerable communities. According to the lawmaker, continued support from the United States should depend on Nigeria demonstrating measurable progress in addressing security challenges and adhering to agreed conditions.
The criticism comes amid ongoing concerns in Washington over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, with calls for stricter oversight of how foreign assistance is utilised. Moore’s remarks reflect growing pressure from some U.S. officials who argue that aid should be conditional on improved governance, transparency, and effective action against violence.
The Nigerian government has yet to issue an official response to the comments, as discussions around security cooperation between both countries continue.
