The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the UK FCDO-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) program, has launched a centralized e-learning platform aimed at transforming teaching and learning across the country.

The platform, named eLearn, offers access to a wide range of high-quality educational resources, including interactive exercises, videos, and texts, designed for learners and teachers at all levels, from basic education to tertiary institutions.

This initiative aims to support teachers with professional development and improve digital inclusion and accessibility for students.

A statement issued by PLANE, following a two-day stakeholder workshop in Abuja, emphasized the government’s commitment to integrating technology into education.

Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman, represented by Gbenga Odewale, highlighted this effort, stating, “Our commitment to achieving technology integration in education is demonstrated in our policies, strategies, and initiatives.

The Ministry also recently collaborated with PLANE to develop a repository of e-learning resources to centralize all available digital learning materials in the country.”

The Minister encouraged teachers, students, and parents to utilize the platform to enhance educational standards nationwide.

Speaking at the event, Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, stressed the importance of ensuring that the platform reaches rural communities and individuals with disabilities, to prevent a digital divide.

“Women and girls tend to have less digital access than men, so the focus must be on inclusion and accessibility, making the platform user-friendly for people with learning disabilities and sensory impairments,” Attfield noted.

The eLearn platform is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s educational system by offering equal access to quality resources for all students and teachers across the nation.
