The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Ismail Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The confirmation followed Thursday’s plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted a report presented by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Presenting the report, the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Sani Bello, told the Senate that the nominee underwent screening in line with established legislative procedures and was found competent and suitable for the role.
According to Bello, the committee carefully examined Yusuf’s credentials and professional experience before recommending his confirmation to the Senate.
Following the adoption of the report, the upper legislative chamber approved the appointment through a voice vote.
In his remarks, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio congratulated the newly confirmed NAHCON chairman and wished him success in his national assignment.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria is the federal agency responsible for coordinating, regulating and supervising Hajj and Umrah activities for Nigerian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.
With Yusuf’s confirmation, the commission is expected to strengthen its leadership structure as preparations continue for upcoming Hajj operations, including strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and coordination with relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia to ensure a smooth pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
Observers say the confirmation comes at a crucial period as the commission intensifies preparations and reforms aimed at improving service delivery, pilgrims’ welfare and overall Hajj management for thousands of Nigerians participating in the annual pilgrimage.
