Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has secured his future with the club by signing a new three-year contract, as confirmed by multiple reports on Thursday.
This deal puts an end to the uncertainty surrounding his position, with his previous contract set to expire in 12 months.
The 42-year-old Spaniard, who took charge of Arsenal in 2019, has overseen a period of significant progress, guiding the Gunners to two consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.
Despite the looming expiration of his contract, Arteta had downplayed concerns, emphasizing last month that his focus was solely on the summer transfer window, stating, “There is no rush, the priority was getting the squad ready for the season.”
Arteta’s new contract comes ahead of Arsenal’s highly anticipated Premier League clash against North London rivals Tottenham this Sunday.
Since stepping into the role following his departure from Manchester City, where he worked as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola, Arteta has reinvigorated Arsenal’s competitive spirit.
Under his leadership, Arsenal won the FA Cup in his debut season and have since emerged as serious title contenders, pushing Manchester City in intense battles over the last two seasons.
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League with two wins and a draw, Arsenal are also preparing to kick off their Champions League campaign next week with a fixture against Italian side Atalanta.
