The government of Akwa Ibom State has approved the disbursement of a ₦50,000 transport allowance for each of the 33,461 candidates who recently sat for the civil service Computer-Based Test (CBT), amounting to over ₦1.6 billion in total.

The move was announced following the presentation of the CBT screening report to governor Umo Eno by the committee overseeing the exercise. In unveiling the package, the governor said: “People don’t come for interviews and walk away with nothing. Let them get the fifty thousand naira they spent on transport and lunch.”

Of the 33,461 applicants who took the test, 12,502 scored 50 percent and above and will be invited for oral interviews, scheduled to begin between January and February.
For candidates who did not meet the cut-off, the government said they would be enrolled into the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Programme, offering them a pathway to skills training and alternative employment opportunities.

The state indicated that only 4,000 of those who pass the interview are expected to receive employment letters by the first week of March, while others will be kept in a database for potential future engagement.
