Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has thrown his support behind Declan Rice’s potential to one day win the Ballon d’Or, describing the midfielder’s performances this season as “immense.”
Rice has enjoyed a standout campaign since his arrival from West Ham, emerging as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders and playing a central role in Arsenal’s position at the top of the table.
The England international delivered a man-of-the-match display in Arsenal’s 3–1 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, continuing the impressive form he has shown for both club and country.
When asked whether Rice could be a future contender for football’s most prestigious individual honour, Arteta was upbeat. “I hope so. That would mean that we have won a lot,” he said. “Normally, it is very much related to trophies. Again, I think he was immense the other day. I think he’s been immense since the start of the season. He’s an incredible and crucial player for us.”
Rice has thrived in a more advanced role under Arteta, contributing two goals and six assists so far this season. His performances have fuelled Arsenal’s bid for a long-awaited Premier League title and their first-ever Champions League triumph.
