Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Waidi Shaibu, has assured Nigerians that security across the country will improve significantly in the coming weeks, citing enhanced coordination among the nation’s armed forces and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, the Army Chief expressed optimism about the trajectory of current security operations, particularly following his recent assessment visit to the Northeast theatre of operations.
“I came to brief him on the outcome of my visit to the Northeast region and then look at other security situations across the country, which was satisfactory within this period,” Shaibu said.
When asked what Nigerians should expect going forward, he responded confidently:
“They should look out for improved security across the country.”
Lt. Gen. Shaibu explained that his presentation to the President covered the latest developments in the ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities nationwide. He noted that the overall situation in the period under review was “satisfactory,” reflecting stronger synergy among security agencies and sustained pressure on criminal elements.
Although he did not reveal specific operational details, his assurance comes amid intensified joint military operations across several northern states. Just last weekend, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a series of airstrikes in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara States, destroying terrorist hideouts and neutralising scores of insurgents.
The Army Chief’s remarks are expected to bolster public confidence as security agencies continue large-scale operations to restore peace and stability across the country.
