The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Elders Unity Forum has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of allegedly spearheading efforts to destabilise the PDP and weaken opposition parties across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Secretary, Dr. Abbas Sadauki, after a meeting in Abuja, the Forum alleged that Wike, along with some members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), is collaborating with external forces to undermine the unity and stability of the party.
According to the Forum, these internal divisions are being exploited to derail preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention, which is scheduled to hold in Ibadan.
The group warned that attempts to use intimidation, misinformation, or legal manipulations to disrupt the exercise would fail.
Sadauki described the individuals behind the alleged sabotage as “predators” working against the collective interest of the PDP, stressing that their efforts would ultimately backfire. He said the Forum remains resolute in defending the party’s unity and ensuring the success of the convention.
The Northern Elders Unity Forum reaffirmed its support for the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and other party leaders who it said are genuinely committed to rebuilding and strengthening the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the judiciary to be vigilant against what it termed “political mercenaries” allegedly using state institutions to destabilise democratic structures.
The Forum called on all loyal members of the PDP to remain steadfast and support ongoing efforts to restore internal cohesion, noting that the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to go ahead with the convention remains binding.
