President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigerian security forces are making significant gains in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and violent crime, with peace gradually returning to previously troubled regions.

In his nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the President commended the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their dedication and sacrifices, noting that their efforts have led to the liberation of hundreds of communities in the North-East and North-West.

“They are winning the war against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes. We see their victories in their blood and sweat as they strive to stamp out Boko Haram terror in the North-East, IPOB/ESN terror in the South-East, and banditry and kidnapping across the country,” Tinubu said.

He added that thousands of displaced Nigerians have since returned to their homes, urging the nation to celebrate the courage and gallantry of its troops.

The President also addressed the nation’s economic challenges, acknowledging the impact of inflation and the rising cost of living. He, however, maintained that his administration’s reforms were necessary to prevent Nigeria from sliding into “economic chaos or bankruptcy.”

“I have always candidly acknowledged that these reforms have come with some temporary pains. The biting effects of inflation and the rising cost of living remain a significant concern to our government. However, the alternative—allowing our country to descend into economic chaos or bankruptcy—was not an option,” Tinubu said.

According to him, the country’s macroeconomic progress demonstrates that the sacrifices of Nigerians are yielding results. “Together, we are laying a new foundation cast in concrete, not on quicksand,” he concluded.
