The Special Task Force, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has handed over a cache of arms and ammunition recovered from criminal elements to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander OPSH, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, led the handover on Sunday. He described the recovery as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to curb insecurity and bloodshed caused by the proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW).
“The recovery was necessary as part of the Federal Government’s determination to stop the senseless bloodletting and insecurity occasioned by the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons,” Oyinlola said.
In a statement signed by OPSH Media and Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, the Commander urged Nigerians to support government initiatives aimed at eradicating illicit arms and fostering a safer society.
He noted that OPSH had made significant progress in reducing criminal attacks through both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies.
According to the statement, 220 small arms and light weapons, 1,874 rounds of ammunition, and 83 cartridges were recovered between 2024 and the present date.
Receiving the recovered weapons on behalf of the NCCSALW Director-General, Deputy Director-General Abdul Adamu commended OPSH for its achievements in combating armed criminality and reducing illegal arms circulation within the Joint Operations Area.
Adamu further called on citizens to support the Federal Government’s drive to completely rid the country of illicit weapons.
