The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to developing a well-educated, professionally competent, and future-ready force through sustained investment in education.

Oluyede made this pledge on Saturday during the 67th Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Military School (NMS) in Zaria, Kaduna State. He was represented at the event by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso.

“In the Nigerian Army, we are sponsoring soldiers to further their studies in reputable civilian universities and colleges across the country, and ex-NMS boys are among the most outstanding beneficiaries of this scheme,” he said.

“The scheme reflects our commitment to building a well-educated, professionally competent, and future-ready Nigerian Army.

I urge you, the passing out Boys, to be grateful for this unique privilege by committing yourselves to excellence and selfless service.”

The COAS described the parade as a formal induction of the graduates into the Nigerian Army, where they have voluntarily pledged to serve the nation.

While acknowledging that welfare packages await them, he also noted that they must be prepared for challenges ahead, having been equipped with the skills required of junior leaders.
Oluyede encouraged those interested in pursuing a military career to seek admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), noting that their NMS training gives them an advantage, although they must still meet the same admission criteria as other Nigerians.

He urged the graduates to take full advantage of the Nigerian Army’s welfare schemes and career development initiatives as they progress.

“As your Chief of Army Staff, my Command Philosophy is anchored on Readiness, Operational Effectiveness, Sound Administration, and Cooperation with Stakeholders.

Central to this philosophy is the ‘Soldier First’ concept, which places the welfare and morale of the other ranks at the core of every decision we take,” Oluyede stated.

The event was attended by the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj.-Gen. Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, alongside traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
